           Thepartyoftheoldanddissatisfied,whocensuredtheinnovations,turnedtohimexpectinghissympathyintheirdisapprovalofthereforms,simplybecausehewasthesonofhisfather.Thefemininesocietyworldwelcomedhimgladly,becausehewasrich,distinguished,agoodmatch,andalmostanewcomer,withahaloofromanceonaccountofhissupposeddeathandthetragiclossofhiswife.Besidesthisthegeneralopinionofallwhohadknownhimpreviouslywasthathehadgreatlyimprovedduringtheselastfiveyears,havingsoftenedandgrownmoremanly,losthisformeraffectation,pride,andcontemptuousirony,andacquiredtheserenitythatcomeswithyears.Peopletalkedabouthim,wereinterestedinhim,andwantedtomeethim.
