           IntheautumntheRostóvsreturnedtoMoscow.EarlyinthewinterDenísovalsocamebackandstayedwiththem.Thefirsthalfofthewinterof1806,whichNicholasRostóvspentinMoscow,wasoneofthehappiest,merriesttimesforhimandthewholefamily.Nicholasbroughtmanyyoungmentohisparents’house.Vérawasahandsomegirloftwenty;Sónyaagirlofsixteenwithallthecharmofanopeningflower;Natásha,halfgrownupandhalfchild,wasnowchildishlyamusing,nowgirlishlyenchanting.
