           Inthemiddleofhisstory,justashewassaying:“Youcannotimaginewhatastrangefrenzyoneexperiencesduringanattack,”PrinceAndrew,whomBoríswasexpecting,enteredtheroom.PrinceAndrew,wholikedtohelpyoungmen,wasflatteredbybeingaskedforhisassistanceandbeingwelldisposedtowardBorís,whohadmanagedtopleasehimthedaybefore,hewishedtodowhattheyoungmanwanted.HavingbeensentwithpapersfromKutúzovtotheTsarévich,helookedinonBorís,hopingtofindhimalone.Whenhecameinandsawanhussarofthelinerecountinghismilitaryexploits(PrinceAndrewcouldnotendurethatsortofman),hegaveBorísapleasantsmile,frownedaswithhalf-closedeyeshelookedatRostóv,bowedslightlyandwearily,andsatdownlanguidlyonthesofa:hefeltitunpleasanttohavedroppedinonbadcompany.Rostóvflusheduponnoticingthis,buthedidnotcare,thiswasamerestranger.Glancing,however,atBorís,hesawthathetooseemedashamedofthehussaroftheline.

           InspiteofPrinceAndrew’sdisagreeable,ironicaltone,inspiteofthecontemptwithwhichRostóv,fromhisfightingarmypointofview,regardedalltheselittleadjutantsonthestaffofwhomthenewcomerwasevidentlyone,Rostóvfeltconfused,blushed,andbecamesilent.Borísinquiredwhatnewstheremightbeonthestaff,andwhat,withoutindiscretion,onemightaskaboutourplans.

           “Weshallprobablyadvance,”repliedBolkónski,evidentlyreluctanttosaymoreinthepresenceofastranger.
