           NeitherPierrenoranyoftheothersspokeofwhattheyhadseeninMoscow,oroftheroughnessoftheirtreatmentbytheFrench,oroftheordertoshootthemwhichhadbeenannouncedtothem.Asifinreactionagainsttheworseningoftheirpositiontheywereallparticularlyanimatedandgay.Theyspokeofpersonalreminiscences,ofamusingscenestheyhadwitnessedduringthecampaign,andavoidedalltalkoftheirpresentsituation.
