           Asabachelor,whenhehadwatchedotherpeople’smarriedlife,seenthepettycares,thesquabbles,thejealousy,hehadonlysmiledcontemptuouslyinhisheart.Inhisfuturemarriedlifetherecouldbe,hewasconvinced,nothingofthatsort;eventheexternalforms,indeed,hefancied,mustbeutterlyunlikethelifeofothersineverything.Andallofasudden,insteadofhislifewithhiswifebeingmadeonanindividualpattern,itwas,onthecontrary,entirelymadeupofthepettiestdetails,whichhehadsodespisedbefore,butwhichnow,bynowillofhisown,hadgainedanextraordinaryimportancethatitwasuselesstocontendagainst.AndLevinsawthattheorganizationofallthesedetailswasbynomeanssoeasyashehadfanciedbefore.
