           Thestreetswerestillempty.LevinwenttothehouseoftheShtcherbatskys.Thevisitors’doorswereclosedandeverythingwasasleep.Hewalkedback,wentintohisroomagain,andaskedforcoffee.Thedayservant,notYegorthistime,broughtittohim.Levinwouldhaveenteredintoconversationwithhim,butabellrangfortheservant,andhewentout.Levintriedtodrinkcoffeeandputsomerollinhismouth,buthismouthwasquiteatalosswhattodowiththeroll.Levin,rejectingtheroll,putonhiscoatandwentoutagainforawalk.Itwasnineo’clockwhenhereachedtheShtcherbatskys’stepsthesecondtime.Inthehousetheywereonlyjustup,andthecookcameouttogomarketing.Hehadtogetthroughatleasttwohoursmore.
