           Whateverhesaid,whateverheproposed,washeardasthoughitweresomethinglongfamiliar,andtheverythingthatwasnotneeded.ButAlexeyAlexandrovitchwasnotawareofthis,and,onthecontrary,beingcutofffromdirectparticipationingovernmentalactivity,hesawmoreclearlythanevertheerrorsanddefectsintheactionofothers,andthoughtithisdutytopointoutmeansfortheircorrection.Shortlyafterhisseparationfromhiswife,hebeganwritinghisfirstnoteonthenewjudicialprocedure,thefirstoftheendlessseriesofnoteshewasdestinedtowriteinthefuture.

           AlexeyAlexandrovitchdidnotmerelyfailtoobservehishopelesspositionintheofficialworld,hewasnotmerelyfreefromanxietyonthishead,hewaspositivelymoresatisfiedthaneverwithhisownactivity.
