           HavingreturnedtotheregimentandtoldthecommanderthestateofDenísov’saffairs,RostóvrodetoTilsitwiththelettertotheEmperor.

           OnthethirteenthofJunetheFrenchandRussianEmperorsarrivedinTilsit.BorísDrubetskóyhadaskedtheimportantpersonageonwhomhewasinattendance,toincludehiminthesuiteappointedforthestayatTilsit.
