           Onthefifteenth,thedayoftheoldprince’sdeath,theMarshalhadinsistedonPrincessMary’sleavingatonce,asitwasbecomingdangerous.Hehadtoldherthatafterthesixteenthhecouldnotberesponsibleforwhatmighthappen.OntheeveningofthedaytheoldprincediedtheMarshalwentaway,promisingtoreturnnextdayforthefuneral.Butthishewasunabletodo,forhereceivedtidingsthattheFrenchhadunexpectedlyadvanced,andhadbarelytimetoremovehisownfamilyandvaluablesfromhisestate.
