           “That’sit.Comeon!...Iwassureofit,”began“Uncle.”(HewasadistantrelativeoftheRostóvs’,amanofsmallmeans,andtheirneighbor.)“Iknewyouwouldn’tbeabletoresistitandit’sagoodthingyou’regoing.That’sit!Comeon!”(Thiswas“Uncle’s”favoriteexpression.)“Takethecovertatonce,formyGírchiksaystheIláginsareatKornikíwiththeirhounds.That’sit.Comeon!...They’lltakethecubsfromunderyourverynose.”

           “That’swhereI’mgoing.Shallwejoinupourpacks?”askedNicholas.

           Thehoundswerejoinedintoonepack,and“Uncle”andNicholasrodeonsidebyside.Natásha,muffledupinshawlswhichdidnothidehereagerfaceandshiningeyes,gallopeduptothem.ShewasfollowedbyPétyawhoalwayskeptclosetoher,byMichael,ahuntsman,andbyagroomappointedtolookafterher.Pétya,whowaslaughing,whippedandpulledathishorse.NatáshasateasilyandconfidentlyonherblackArábchikandreinedhiminwithouteffortwithafirmhand.

           “Uncle”lookedrounddisapprovinglyatPétyaandNatásha.
