           Suddenlyherdooropenedsoftlyandheroldnurse,PraskóvyaSávishna,whohardlyevercametothatroomastheoldprincehadforbiddenit,appearedonthethresholdwithashawlroundherhead.

           “I’vecometositwithyouabit,Másha,”saidthenurse,“andhereI’vebroughttheprince’sweddingcandlestolightbeforehissaint,myangel,”shesaidwithasigh.

           “Oh,nurse,I’msoglad!”

           “Godismerciful,birdie.”
