           PrinceVasíliwishedtoobtainthispostforhisson,butothersweretryingthroughtheDowagerEmpressMáryaFëdorovnatosecureitforthebaron.

           AnnaPávlovnaalmostclosedhereyestoindicatethatneithershenoranyoneelsehadarighttocriticizewhattheEmpressdesiredorwaspleasedwith.

           “BaronFunkehasbeenrecommendedtotheDowagerEmpressbyhersister,”wasallshesaid,inadryandmournfultone.
