           “Yourhonor,thereheis!”criedoneofthehussarsbehindhim.AndbeforeRostóvhadtimetomakeoutwhattheblackthingwasthathadsuddenlyappearedinthefog,therewasaflash,followedbyareport,andabulletwhizzinghighupinthemistwithaplaintivesoundpassedoutofhearing.Anothermusketmissedfirebutflashedinthepan.Rostóvturnedhishorseandgallopedback.Fourmorereportsfollowedatintervals,andthebulletspassedsomewhereinthefogsingingindifferenttones.Rostóvreinedinhishorse,whosespiritshadrisen,likehisown,atthefiring,andwentbackatafootpace.“Well,somemore!Somemore!”amerryvoicewassayinginhissoul.
