           AftermeetingPrincessMary,thoughthecourseofhislifewentonexternallyasbefore,allhisformeramusementslosttheircharmforhimandheoftenthoughtabouther.Butheneverthoughtaboutherashehadthoughtofalltheyoungladieswithoutexceptionwhomhehadmetinsociety,norashehadforalongtime,andatonetimerapturously,thoughtaboutSónya.Hehadpicturedeachofthoseyoungladiesasalmostallhonest-heartedyoungmendo,thatis,asapossiblewife,adaptingherinhisimaginationtoalltheconditionsofmarriedlife:awhitedressinggown,hiswifeattheteatable,hiswife’scarriage,littleones,MammaandPapa,theirrelationstoher,andsoon—andthesepicturesofthefuturehadgivenhimpleasure
