           Theyoungmaninthefur-linedcoat,stoopingalittle,stoodinasubmissiveattitude,hisfingersclaspedbeforehim.Hisemaciatedyoungface,disfiguredbythehalf-shavenhead,hungdownhopelessly.Atthecount’sfirstwordsheraiseditslowlyandlookedupathimasifwishingtosaysomethingoratleasttomeethiseye.ButRostopchíndidnotlookathim.Aveinintheyoungman’slongthinneckswelledlikeacordandwentbluebehindtheear,andsuddenlyhisfaceflushed.
