           KutúzovceasedchewingandfixedanastonishedgazeonWolzogen,asifnotunderstandingwhatwassaidtohim.Wolzogen,noticing“theoldgentleman’s”agitation,saidwithasmile:

           “Youhaveseen?Youhaveseen?...”Kutúzovshouted.Frowningandrisingquickly,hewentuptoWolzogen.

           “How...howdareyou!...”heshouted,chokingandmakingathreateninggesturewithhistremblingarms:“Howdareyou,sir,saythattome?Youknownothingaboutit.TellGeneralBarclayfrommethathisinformationisincorrectandthattherealcourseofthebattleisbetterknowntome,thecommanderinchief,thantohim.”

           Wolzogenwasabouttomakearejoinder,butKutúzovinterruptedhim.
