           AndinfacttwomorepeasantsbeganbindingDron,whotookoffhisownbeltandhandedittothem,asiftoaidthem.

           “Allourstupidity,YákovAlpátych,”cametheanswers,andthecrowdbeganatoncetodispersethroughthevillage.

           Thetwoboundmenwereledofftothemaster’shouse.Thetwodrunkenpeasantsfollowedthem.

           “Howcanonetalktothemasterslikethat?Whatwereyouthinkingof,youfool?”addedtheother—“Arealfool!”

           TwohourslaterthecartswerestandinginthecourtyardoftheBoguchárovohouse.Thepeasantswerebrisklycarryingouttheproprietor’sgoodsandpackingthemonthecarts,andDron,liberatedatPrincessMary’swishfromthecupboardwherehehadbeenconfined,wasstandingintheyarddirectingthemen.
