           Presentlythehorsesbegantoscream,andtoreattheirtetherstillIcametothemandquietedthem. Whentheydidfeelmyhandsonthem,theywhinniedlowasinjoy,andlickedatmyhandsandwerequietforatime. ManytimesthroughthenightdidIcometothem,tillitarrivetothecoldhourwhenallnatureisatlowest,andeverytimemycomingwaswithquietofthem. Inthecoldhourthefirebegantodie,andIwasaboutsteppingforthtoreplenishit,fornowthesnowcameinflyingsweepsandwithitachillmist. Eveninthedarktherewasalightofsomekind,asthereeverisoversnow,anditseemedasthoughthesnowflurriesandthewreathsofmisttookshapeasofwomenwithtrailinggarments.
