Dr. Seward’s Diary

           1October,4A.M. Justaswewereabouttoleavethehouse,anurgentmessagewasbroughttomefromRenfieldtoknowifIwouldseehimatonce,ashehadsomethingoftheutmostimportancetosaytome. ItoldthemessengertosaythatIwouldattendtohiswishesinthemorning,Iwasbusyjustatthemoment. 

           Theattendantadded, "Heseemsveryimportunate,sir.Ihaveneverseenhimsoeager. Idon’tknowbutwhat,ifyoudon’tseehimsoon,hewillhaveoneofhisviolentfits." Iknewthemanwouldnothavesaidthiswithoutsomecause,soIsaid, "Allright,I’llgonow,"andIaskedtheotherstowaitafewminutesforme,asIhadtogoandseemypatient. 

           "Takemewithyou,friendJohn,"saidtheProfessor. "Hiscaseinyourdiaryinterestmemuch,andithadbearing,too,nowandagainonourcase. Ishouldmuchliketoseehim,andespecialwhenhismindisdisturbed." 

           "MayIcomealso?"askedLordGodalming. 

           "Metoo?"saidQuinceyMorris."MayIcome?"saidHarker. Inodded,andweallwentdownthepassagetogether. 

           Wefoundhiminastateofconsiderableexcitement,butfarmorerationalinhisspeechandmannerthanIhadeverseenhim. Therewasanunusualunderstandingofhimself,whichwasunlikeanythingIhadevermetwithinalunatic,andhetookitforgrantedthathisreasonswouldprevailwithothersentirelysane. Weallfivewentintotheroom,butnoneoftheothersatfirstsaidanything. HisrequestwasthatIwouldatoncereleasehimfromtheasylumandsendhimhome.
