           Therewasnopaper-knifeonthetable,andso,pullingoutthephotographthatwasnexttoherson’s(itwasaphotographofVronskytakenatRomeinaroundhatandwithlonghair),sheusedittopushoutherson’sphotograph.“Oh,hereishe!”shesaid,glancingattheportraitofVronsky,andshesuddenlyrecalledthathewasthecauseofherpresentmisery.Shehadnotoncethoughtofhimallthemorning.Butnow,comingallatonceuponthatmanly,nobleface,sofamiliarandsodeartoher,shefeltasuddenrushofloveforhim.

           Andgoingovertheeventsofthelastfewdays,itseemedtoherthatshesawineverythingaconfirmationofthisterribleidea.
