           AllMihailov’smobilefacebeamedatonce;hiseyessparkled.Hetriedtosaysomething,buthecouldnotspeakforexcitement,andpretendedtobecoughing.LowaswashisopinionofGolenishtchev’scapacityforunderstandingart,triflingaswasthetrueremarkuponthefidelityoftheexpressionofPilateasanofficial,andoffensiveasmighthaveseemedtheutteranceofsounimportantanobservationwhilenothingwassaidofmoreseriouspoints,Mihailovwasinanecstasyofdelightatthisobservation.HehadhimselfthoughtaboutPilate’sfigurejustwhatGolenishtchevsaid.
