           Hesawthatthecomplexconditionsofthelifetheyledmadethecoarseproofsofhiswife’sguilt,requiredbythelaw,outofthequestion;hesawthatacertainrefinementinthatlifewouldnotadmitofsuchproofsbeingbroughtforward,evenifhehadthem,andthattobringforwardsuchproofswoulddamagehiminthepublicestimationmorethanitwouldher.
