           “Well,youfinditexcitingtoo?”saidStepanArkadyevitch,winkingatVronsky.“It’ssomethinglikearace.Onemightbetonit.”

           “Yes,itiskeenlyexciting,”saidVronsky.“Andoncetakingthethingup,one’seagertoseeitthrough.It’safight!”hesaid,scowlingandsettinghispowerfuljaws.

           “WhatacapablefellowSviazhskyis!Seesitallsoclearly.”

           “Oh,yes!”Vronskyassentedindifferently.

           Asilencefollowed,duringwhichVronskysincehehadtolookatsomethinglookedatLevin,athisfeet,athisuniform,thenathisface,andnoticinghisgloomyeyesfixeduponhim,hesaid,inordertosaysomething:
