Hedescendedandcametoasmallbasinofseaenclosedbythecliffs.Troy’snaturefreshenedwithinhim;hethoughthewouldrestandbatheherebeforegoingfarther.Heundressedandplungedin.Insidethecovethewaterwasuninterestingtoaswimmer,beingsmoothasapond,andtogetalittleoftheoceanswell,TroypresentlyswambetweenthetwoprojectingspursofrockwhichformedthepillarsofHerculestothisminiatureMediterranean.UnfortunatelyforTroyacurrentunknowntohimexistedoutside,which,unimportanttocraftofanyburden,wasawkwardforaswimmerwhomightbetakeninitunawares.Troyfoundhimselfcarriedtotheleftandthenroundinaswoopouttosea.
Henowrecollectedtheplaceanditssinistercharacter.Manybathershadthereprayedforadrydeathfromtimetotime,and,likeGonzaloalso,hadbeenunanswered;andTroybegantodeemitpossiblethathemightbeaddedtotheirnumber.
