           Theanimalplunged;Bathshebainstantlygazedtowardsit,andsawtheblood.

           "Bottle!"heshouted,inanunmovedvoiceofroutine.CainyBallranup,thewoundwasanointed,andtheshearingcontinued.

           BoldwoodgentlytossedBathshebaintothesaddle,andbeforetheyturnedawaysheagainspokeouttoOakwiththesamedominativeandtantalizinggraciousness.

           "IamgoingnowtoseeMr.Boldwood’sLeicesters.Takemyplaceinthebarn,Gabriel,andkeepthemencarefullytotheirwork."

           Thehorses’headswereputabout,andtheytrottedaway.

           Boldwood’sdeepattachmentwasamatterofgreatinterestamongallaroundhim;but,afterhavingbeenpointedoutforsomanyyearsastheperfectexemplarofthrivingbachelorship,hislapsewasananticlimaxsomewhatresemblingthatofSt.JohnLong’sdeathbyconsumptioninthemidstofhisproofsthatitwasnotafataldisease.

           "Thatmeansmatrimony,"saidTemperanceMiller,followingthemoutofsightwithhereyes.
