           Mr.Martinexpressedthesameopinioninratherstrongerterms;Mr.Simpson,afterhavingletavarietyofexpletiveadjectiveslooseuponsocietywithoutanysubstantivetoaccompanythem,tuckeduphissleeves,andbegantowashthegreensfordinner.

           Whilethiswasgoingon,Mr.Pickwickhadbeeneyeingtheroom,whichwasfilthilydirty,andsmeltintolerablyclose.Therewasnovestigeofeithercarpet,curtain,orblind.Therewasnotevenaclosetinit.Unquestionablytherewerebutfewthingstoputaway,iftherehadbeenone;but,howeverfewinnumber,orsmallinindividualamount,still,remnantsofloavesandpiecesofcheese,anddamptowels,andscragsofmeat,andarticlesofwearingapparel,andmutilatedcrockery,andbellowswithoutnozzles,andtoasting-forkswithoutprongs,dopresentsomewhatofanuncomfortableappearancewhentheyarescatteredaboutthefloorofasmallapartment,whichisthecommonsittingandsleepingroomofthreeidlemen.
