           Mr.Pickwick,feelingnotalittledisgustedwiththisdialogue,aswellaswiththeairandmannerofthetwobeingsbywhomithadbeencarriedon,wasabouttoinquirewhetherhecouldnotbeaccommodatedwithaprivatesitting-room,whentwoorthreestrangersofgenteelappearanceentered,atsightofwhomtheboythrewhiscigarintothefire,andwhisperingtoMr.Pricethattheyhadcometo‘makeitallright’forhim,joinedthematatableinthefartherendoftheroom.

           Itwouldappear,however,thatmatterswerenotgoingtobemadeallrightquitesospeedilyastheyounggentlemananticipated;foraverylongconversationensued,ofwhichMr.Pickwickcouldnotavoidhearingcertainangryfragmentsregardingdissoluteconduct,andrepeatedforgiveness.Atlast,therewereverydistinctallusionsmadebytheoldestgentlemanofthepartytooneWhitecrossStreet,atwhichtheyounggentleman,notwithstandinghisprimenessandhisspirit,andhisknowledgeoflifeintothebargain,reclinedhisheaduponthetable,andhowleddismally.
