Anhour’swalkbroughtthetravellerstoalittleroad-sidepublic-house,withtwoelm-trees,ahorsetrough,andasignpost,infront;oneortwodeformedhay-ricksbehind,akitchengardenattheside,androttenshedsandmoulderingouthousesjumbledinstrangeconfusionallaboutit.Ared-headedmanwasworkinginthegarden;andtohimMr.Pickwickcalledlustily,‘Hollothere!’
Thered-headedmanraisedhisbody,shadedhiseyeswithhishand,andstared,longandcoolly,atMr.Pickwickandhiscompanions.
