           Hesoftenedagainatsightofthesetwofriends,and,layingasidetheangrymanneriftoanythingsofeebleandsosadthetermcanbeappliedinwhichhehadspokenwhenthedooropened,resumedhisformerseat,andsubsided,bylittleandlittleintotheoldaction,andtheold,dull,wanderingsound.

           ‘Iamnotsosureofthat,ifitwouldonlyrouseher.Shehassleptsoverylong.AndyetIamrashtosayso.Itisagoodandhappysleepeh?’

           ‘Indeeditis,’returnedthebachelor.‘Indeed,indeed,itis!’

           ‘That’swell!andthewakingfalteredtheoldman.

           ‘Happytoo.Happierthantonguecantell,orheartofmanconceive.’

           Theywatchedhimasheroseandstoleontiptoetotheotherchamberwherethelamphadbeenreplaced.Theylistenedashespokeagainwithinitssilentwalls.Theylookedintothefacesofeachother,andnoman’scheekwasfreefromtears.Hecameback,whisperingthatshewasstillasleep,butthathethoughtshehadmoved.
