           Thesinglegentleman,however,wasnotintheslightestdegreeaffectedbythiscircumstance,butproceededwithperfectcomposuretounwindtheshawlwhichwastiedroundhisneck,andthentopulloffhisboots.Freedoftheseencumbrances,hewentontodivesthimselfofhisotherclothing,whichhefoldedup,piecebypiece,andrangedinorderonthetrunk.Then,hepulleddownthewindow-blinds,drewthecurtains,wounduphiswatch,and,quiteleisurelyandmethodically,gotintobed.

           ‘Takedownthebill,’werehispartingwords,ashelookedoutfrombetweenthecurtains;‘andletnobodycallmetillIringthebell.’

           Withthatthecurtainsclosed,andheseemedtosnoreimmediately.
