           ‘Ithink,boys,’saidtheschoolmasterwhentheclockstrucktwelve,‘thatIshallgiveanextrahalf-holidaythisafternoon.’

           Atthisintelligence,theboys,ledonandheadedbythetallboy,raisedagreatshout,inthemidstofwhichthemasterwasseentospeak,butcouldnotbeheard.Ashehelduphishand,however,intokenofhiswishthattheyshouldbesilent,theywereconsiderateenoughtoleaveoff,assoonasthelongest-windedamongthemwerequiteoutofbreath.

           ‘Youmustpromisemefirst,’saidtheschoolmaster,‘thatyou’llnotbenoisy,oratleast,ifyouare,thatyou’llgoawayandbesoawayoutofthevillageImean.I’msureyouwouldn’tdisturbyouroldplaymateandcompanion.
