           Marianneturnedawayingreatconfusion.Mrs.Jenningslaughedheartily;andElinorfoundthatinherresolutiontoknowwheretheyhadbeen,shehadactuallymadeherownwomanenquireofMr.Willoughby’sgroom;andthatshehadbythatmethodbeeninformedthattheyhadgonetoAllenham,andspentaconsiderabletimethereinwalkingaboutthegardenandgoingalloverthehouse.

           Elinorcouldhardlybelievethistobetrue,asitseemedveryunlikelythatWilloughbyshouldpropose,orMarianneconsent,toenterthehousewhileMrs.Smithwasinit,withwhomMariannehadnotthesmallestacquaintance.
