AsElinorandMariannewerewalkingtogetherthenextmorningthelattercommunicatedapieceofnewstohersister,whichinspiteofallthatsheknewbeforeofMarianne’simprudenceandwantofthought,surprisedherbyitsextravaganttestimonyofboth.Mariannetoldher,withthegreatestdelight,thatWilloughbyhadgivenherahorse,onethathehadbredhimselfonhisestateinSomersetshire,andwhichwasexactlycalculatedtocarryawoman.Withoutconsideringthatitwasnotinhermother’splantokeepanyhorse,thatifsheweretoalterherresolutioninfavourofthisgift,shemustbuyanotherfortheservant,andkeepaservanttorideit,andafterall,buildastabletoreceivethem,shehadacceptedthepresentwithouthesitation,andtoldhersisterofitinraptures.
