           Mrs.JohnDashwoodnowinstalledherselfmistressofNorland;andhermotherandsisters-in-lawweredegradedtotheconditionofvisitors.Assuch,however,theyweretreatedbyherwithquietcivility;andbyherhusbandwithasmuchkindnessashecouldfeeltowardsanybodybeyondhimself,hiswife,andtheirchild.Hereallypressedthem,withsomeearnestness,toconsiderNorlandastheirhome;and,asnoplanappearedsoeligibletoMrs.Dashwoodasremainingtheretillshecouldaccommodateherselfwithahouseintheneighbourhood,hisinvitationwasaccepted.

           Acontinuanceinaplacewhereeverythingremindedherofformerdelight,wasexactlywhatsuitedhermind.Inseasonsofcheerfulness,notempercouldbemorecheerfulthanhers,orpossess,inagreaterdegree,thatsanguineexpectationofhappinesswhichishappinessitself.Butinsorrowshemustbeequallycarriedawaybyherfancy,andasfarbeyondconsolationasinpleasureshewasbeyondalloy.

           Mrs.JohnDashwooddidnotatallapproveofwhatherhusbandintendedtodoforhissisters.Totakethreethousandpoundsfromthefortuneoftheirdearlittleboywouldbeimpoverishinghimtothemostdreadfuldegree.Shebeggedhimtothinkagainonthesubject.Howcouldheanswerittohimselftorobhischild,andhisonlychildtoo,ofsolargeasum?AndwhatpossibleclaimcouldtheMissDashwoods,whowererelatedtohimonlybyhalfblood,whichsheconsideredasnorelationshipatall,haveonhisgenerositytosolargeanamount.
