           Thoughhiseyeshadbeenlongopened,evenbeforehisacquaintancewithElinorbegan,toherignoranceandawantofliberalityinsomeofheropinions—theyhadbeenequallyimputed,byhim,toherwantofeducation;andtillherlastletterreachedhim,hehadalwaysbelievedhertobeawell-disposed,good-heartedgirl,andthoroughlyattachedtohimself.Nothingbutsuchapersuasioncouldhavepreventedhisputtinganendtoanengagement,which,longbeforethediscoveryofitlaidhimopentohismother’sanger,hadbeenacontinualsourceofdisquietandregrettohim.
