           Jenningshearinthemorningofwhathadpassed.Herformerapprehensions,nowwithgreaterreasonrestored,lefthernodoubtoftheevent;andthoughtryingtospeakcomforttoElinor,herconvictionofhersister’sdangerwouldnotallowhertoofferthecomfortofhope.Herheartwasreallygrieved.Therapiddecay,theearlydeathofagirlsoyoung,solovelyasMarianne,musthavestruckalessinterestedpersonwithconcern.OnMrs.Jennings’scompassionshehadotherclaims.Shehadbeenforthreemonthshercompanion,wasstillunderhercare,andshewasknowntohavebeengreatlyinjured,andlongunhappy.Thedistressofhersistertoo,particularlyafavourite,wasbeforeher;—andasfortheirmother,whenMrs.JenningsconsideredthatMariannemightprobablybetoHERwhatCharlottewastoherself,hersympathyinHERsufferingswasverysincere.

           Mr.Harriswaspunctualinhissecondvisit;—buthecametobedisappointedinhishopesofwhatthelastwouldproduce.Hismedicineshadfailed;—thefeverwasunabated;andMarianneonlymorequiet—notmoreherself—remainedinaheavystupor.Elinor,catchingall,andmorethanall,hisfearsinamoment,proposedtocallinfurtheradvice.Buthejudgeditunnecessary:hehadstillsomethingmoretotry,somemorefreshapplication,ofwhosesuccesshewasasconfidentasthelast,andhisvisitconcludedwithencouragingassuranceswhichreachedtheear,butcouldnotentertheheartofMissDashwood.
