           Elinor,havingoncedeliveredheropiniononWilliam’sside,bywhichsheoffendedMrs.FerrarsandFannystillmore,didnotseethenecessityofenforcingitbyanyfartherassertion;andMarianne,whencalledonforhers,offendedthemall,bydeclaringthatshehadnoopiniontogive,asshehadneverthoughtaboutit.

           BeforeherremovingfromNorland,Elinorhadpaintedaveryprettypairofscreensforhersister-in-law,whichbeingnowjustmountedandbroughthome,ornamentedherpresentdrawingroom;andthesescreens,catchingtheeyeofJohnDashwoodonhisfollowingtheothergentlemenintotheroom,wereofficiouslyhandedbyhimtoColonelBrandonforhisadmiration.

           TheColonel,thoughdisclaimingallpretensionstoconnoisseurship,warmlyadmiredthescreens,ashewouldhavedoneanythingpaintedbyMissDashwood;andonthecuriosityoftheothersbeingofcourseexcited,theywerehandedroundforgeneralinspection.Mrs.Ferrars,notawareoftheirbeingElinor’swork,particularlyrequestedtolookatthem;andaftertheyhadreceivedgratifyingtestimonyofLadyMiddletons’sapprobation,Fannypresentedthemtohermother,consideratelyinformingher,atthesametime,thattheyweredonebyMissDashwood.
