           ThesituationofBarton,inacountysofardistantfromSussexasDevonshire,which,butafewhoursbefore,wouldhavebeenasufficientobjectiontooutweigheverypossibleadvantagebelongingtotheplace,wasnowitsfirstrecommendation.ToquittheneighbourhoodofNorlandwasnolongeranevil;itwasanobjectofdesire;itwasablessing,incomparisonofthemiseryofcontinuingherdaughter-in-law’sguest;andtoremoveforeverfromthatbelovedplacewouldbelesspainfulthantoinhabitorvisititwhilesuchawomanwasitsmistress.SheinstantlywroteSirJohnMiddletonheracknowledgmentofhiskindness,andheracceptanceofhisproposal;andthenhastenedtoshewbothletterstoherdaughters,thatshemightbesecureoftheirapprobationbeforeheranswerweresent.

           ElinorhadalwaysthoughtitwouldbemoreprudentforthemtosettleatsomedistancefromNorland,thanimmediatelyamongsttheirpresentacquaintance.OnTHAThead,therefore,itwasnotforhertoopposehermother’sintentionofremovingintoDevonshire.Thehouse,too,asdescribedbySirJohn,wasonsosimpleascale,andtherentsouncommonlymoderate,astoleavehernorightofobjectiononeitherpoint;and,therefore,thoughitwasnotaplanwhichbroughtanycharmtoherfancy,thoughitwasaremovalfromthevicinityofNorlandbeyondherwishes,shemadenoattempttodissuadehermotherfromsendingaletterofacquiescence.
