           ItwasagreatsatisfactiontoElinorthatMrs.Jennings,bybeingmuchengagedinherownroom,couldseelittleofwhatwaspassing.Theteathingswerebroughtin,andalreadyhadMariannebeendisappointedmorethanoncebyarapataneighbouringdoor,whenaloudonewassuddenlyheardwhichcouldnotbemistakenforoneatanyotherhouse,ElinorfeltsecureofitsannouncingWilloughby’sapproach,andMarianne,startingup,movedtowardsthedoor.Everythingwassilent;thiscouldnotbebornemanyseconds;sheopenedthedoor,advancedafewstepstowardsthestairs,andafterlisteninghalfaminute,returnedintotheroominalltheagitationwhichaconvictionofhavingheardhimwouldnaturallyproduce;intheecstasyofherfeelingsatthatinstantshecouldnothelpexclaiming,"Oh,Elinor,itisWilloughby,indeeditis!"andseemedalmostreadytothrowherselfintohisarms,whenColonelBrandonappeared.

           Itwastoogreatashocktobebornewithcalmness,andsheimmediatelylefttheroom.Elinorwasdisappointedtoo;butatthesametimeherregardforColonelBrandonensuredhiswelcomewithher;andshefeltparticularlyhurtthatamansopartialtohersistershouldperceivethatsheexperiencednothingbutgriefanddisappointmentinseeinghim.
