           Justattheverymomentoftheirentrance,theDowagerLadySnuphanuphandtwootherladiesofanancientandwhist-likeappearance,werehoveringoveranunoccupiedcard-table;andtheynosoonerseteyesuponMr.PickwickundertheconvoyofAngeloBantam,thantheyexchangedglanceswitheachother,seeingthathewaspreciselytheverypersontheywanted,tomakeuptherubber.

           ‘MydearBantam,’saidtheDowagerLadySnuphanuphcoaxingly,‘findussomenicecreaturetomakeupthistable;there’sagoodsoul.’Mr.
