A good-humoured Christmas Chapter, containing an Account of a Wedding, and some other Sports beside:

           Theoldladywasinastateofgreatgrandeurjustthen,forshewassittingatthetopofthetableinthebrocadedgown,withhernewly-marriedgranddaughterononeside,andMr.Pickwickontheother,todothecarving.Mr.Pickwickhadnotspokeninaveryloudtone,butsheunderstoodhimatonce,anddrankoffafullglassofwinetohislonglifeandhappiness;afterwhichtheworthyoldsoullaunchedforthintoaminuteandparticularaccountofherownwedding,withadissertationonthefashionofwearinghigh-heeledshoes,andsomeparticularsconcerningthelifeandadventuresofthebeautifulLadyTollimglower,deceased;atallofwhichtheoldladyherselflaughedveryheartilyindeed,andsodidtheyoungladiestoo,fortheywerewonderingamongthemselveswhatonearthgrandmawastalkingabout.Whentheylaughed,theoldladylaughedtentimesmoreheartily,andsaidthatthesealwayshadbeenconsideredcapitalstories,whichcausedthemalltolaughagain,andputtheoldladyintotheverybestofhumours.Thenthecakewascut,andpassedthroughthering;theyoungladiessavedpiecestoputundertheirpillowstodreamoftheirfuturehusbandson;andagreatdealofblushingandmerrimentwastherebyoccasioned.
