‘Horrid,yourWash-up,’repliedGrummer,whohadavagueimpressionthattherewasasmellofrumsomewhere.
‘Iknewhedid,’saidMr.Nupkins.‘Isawhewasdrunkwhenhefirstcameintotheroom,byhisexcitedeye.Didyouobservehisexcitedeye,Mr.Jinks?’
‘Certainly,Sir.’
‘Ihaven’ttouchedadropofspiritsthismorning,’saidtheman,whowasassoberafellowasneedbe.
‘Howdareyoutellmeafalsehood?’saidMr.Nupkins.‘Isn’thedrunkatthismoment,Mr.Jinks?’
