           ‘Nonamesatall;’andthenhewhisperedMr.Tupman,‘nameswon’tdonotknownverygoodnamesintheirway,butnotgreatonescapitalnamesforasmallparty,butwon’tmakeanimpressioninpublicassembliesincog.thethinggentlemenfromLondondistinguishedforeignersanything.’Thedoorwasthrownopen,andMr.TracyTupmanandthestrangerenteredtheballroom.

           Itwasalongroom,withcrimson-coveredbenches,andwaxcandlesinglasschandeliers.Themusiciansweresecurelyconfinedinanelevatedden,andquadrilleswerebeingsystematicallygotthroughbytwoorthreesetsofdancers.
