           ‘Nowyouhaveputmeout,’observedFannywitharesignedtossofherfan,‘andIhadbettergotobed.’

           ‘Don’tdothat,mylove,’urgedMrSparkler.‘Taketime.’

           Fannytookagooddealoftime:lyingbackwithhereyesshut,andhereyebrowsraisedwithahopelessexpressionasifshehadutterlygivenupallterrestrialaffairs.Atlength,withouttheslightestnotice,sheopenedhereyesagain,andrecommencedinashort,sharpmanner:
