           Maggysatatherworkinhergreatwhitecapwithitsquantityofopaquefrillinghidingwhatprofileshehad(shehadnonetospare),andherserviceableeyebroughttobearuponheroccupation,onthewindowsideoftheroom.Whatwithherflappingcap,andwhatwithherunserviceableeye,shewasquitepartitionedofffromherLittleMother,whoseseatwasoppositethewindow.ThetreadandshuffleoffeetonthepavementoftheyardhadmuchdiminishedsincethetakingoftheChair,thetideofCollegianshavingsetstronglyinthedirectionofHarmony.Somefewwhohadnomusicintheirsouls,ornomoneyintheirpockets,dawdledabout;andtheoldspectacleofthevisitor-wifeandthedepressedunseasonedprisonerstilllingeredincorners,asbrokencobwebsandsuchunsightlydiscomfortsdraggleincornersofotherplaces.ItwasthequietesttimetheCollegeknew,savingthenighthourswhentheCollegianstookthebenefitoftheactofsleep.TheoccasionalrattleofapplauseuponthetablesoftheSnuggery,denotedthesuccessfulterminationofamorselofHarmony;ortheresponsiveacceptance,bytheunitedchildren,ofsometoastorsentimentofferedtothembytheirFather.Occasionally,avocalstrainmoresonorousthanthegeneralityinformedthelistenerthatsomeboastfulbasswasinbluewater,orinthehuntingfield,orwiththereindeer,oronthemountain,oramongtheheather;buttheMarshaloftheMarshalseaknewbetter,andhadgothimhardandfast.
