Someofthemareunmannered,rough,intractable,aswellasignorant;butothersaredocile,haveawishtolearn,andevinceadispositionthatpleasesme. Imustnotforgetthatthesecoarsely-cladlittlepeasantsareoffleshandbloodasgoodasthescionsofgentlestgenealogy;andthatthegermsofnativeexcellence,refinement,intelligence,kindfeeling,areaslikelytoexistintheirheartsasinthoseofthebest-born. Mydutywillbetodevelopthesegerms:surelyIshallfindsomehappinessindischargingthatoffice.
