           ThiscoherentspeechwasinterruptedbytheentranceoftheRochestercoachman,toannouncethat‘theCommodore’wasonthepointofstarting.

           ‘Commodore!’saidthestranger,startingup,‘mycoachplacebookedoneoutsideleaveyoutopayforthebrandy-and-waterwantchangeforafivebadsilverBrummagembuttonswon’tdonogoeh?’andheshookhisheadmostknowingly.

           NowitsohappenedthatMr.PickwickandhisthreecompanionshadresolvedtomakeRochestertheirfirsthalting-placetoo;andhavingintimatedtotheirnew-foundacquaintancethattheywerejourneyingtothesamecity,theyagreedtooccupytheseatatthebackofthecoach,wheretheycouldallsittogether.

           ‘Upwithyou,’saidthestranger,assistingMr.Pickwickontotheroofwithsomuchprecipitationastoimpairthegravityofthatgentleman’sdeportmentverymaterially.

           ‘Anyluggage,Sir?’inquiredthecoachman.
