           Inadditiontothesepointsofdistraction,Wardlewasintrustedwithtwosmallletterstotwosmallyoungladieswhoweretoactasbridesmaids;uponthereceiptofwhich,thetwoyoungladiesweredriventodespairbyhavingno‘things’readyforsoimportantanoccasion,andnotimetomaketheminacircumstancewhichappearedtoaffordthetwoworthypapasofthetwosmallyoungladiesratherafeelingofsatisfactionthanotherwise.However,oldfrocksweretrimmed,andnewbonnetsmade,andtheyoungladieslookedaswellascouldpossiblyhavebeenexpectedofthem.Andastheycriedatthesubsequentceremonyintheproperplaces,andtrembledattherighttimes,theyacquittedthemselvestotheadmirationofallbeholders.HowthetwopoorrelationseverreachedLondonwhethertheywalked,orgotbehindcoaches,orprocuredliftsinwagons,orcarriedeachotherbyturnsisuncertain;buttheretheywere,beforeWardle;andtheveryfirstpeoplethatknockedatthedoorofMr.Pickwick’shouse,onthebridalmorning,werethetwopoorrelations,allsmilesandshirtcollar.

           Theywerewelcomedheartilythough,forrichesorpovertyhadnoinfluenceonMr.Pickwick;thenewservantswereallalacrityandreadiness;Samwasinamostunrivalledstateofhighspiritsandexcitement;Marywasglowingwithbeautyandsmartribands.

           Thebridegroom,whohadbeenstayingatthehousefortwoorthreedaysprevious,salliedforthgallantlytoDulwichChurchtomeetthebride,attendedbyMr.
