           TheyfoundMr.Pickwick,incompanywithJingle,talkingveryearnestly,andnotbestowingalookonthegroupswhowerecongregatedontheracket-ground;theywereverymotleygroupstoo,andworththelookingat,ifitwereonlyinidlecuriosity.

           ‘Well,’saidMr.Pickwick,asSamandhiscompaniondrewnigh,‘youwillseehowyourhealthbecomes,andthinkaboutitmeanwhile.Makethestatementoutformewhenyoufeelyourselfequaltothetask,andIwilldiscussthesubjectwithyouwhenIhaveconsideredit.Now,gotoyourroom.Youaretired,andnotstrongenoughtobeoutlong.’

           Mr.AlfredJingle,withoutonesparkofhisoldanimationwithnothingevenofthedismalgaietywhichhehadassumedwhenMr.Pickwickfirststumbledonhiminhismiserybowedlowwithoutspeaking,and,motioningtoJobnottofollowhimjustyet,creptslowlyaway.
