           ‘Ofcourse,’saidFanny.‘Veryproper.Poor,afflictedPa!Now,Ihopeyoubelieveme,Miss?’

           ‘Whatisit,father?’criedLittleDorrit,bendingoverhim.‘HaveImadeyouunhappy,father?NotI,Ihope!’

           ‘Youhope,indeed!Idaresay!Oh,you’—Fannypausedforasufficientlystrongexpression—‘youCommon-mindedlittleAmy!Youcompleteprison-child!’

           Hestoppedtheseangryreproacheswithawaveofhishand,andsobbedout,raisinghisfaceandshakinghismelancholyheadathisyoungerdaughter,‘Amy,Iknowthatyouareinnocentinintention.Butyouhavecutmetothesoul.’
